By His Light: Finding Your Way in the Darkness
This morning as I was reading about the resurrection in Matthew 28, I read about an angel from heaven whose appearance “appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.” The angel shone with light because he had been in the presence of the Father. If you remember, when Moses came down from Mt. Sinai, his face shone because he, too had been in the presence of God (Exodus 34).
When we draw close to the Lord, something changes in us. While others may not see a visible change (although there are certainly times the change is visible), God illuminates our path. His Word has been described as a light unto our path. When we spend time with God, His Light often shows us our next step.
When we feel stuck in the darkness and don’t know where to turn, we need light to see. Light gives us hope that we will escape the darkness. Jesus is the Light and he shows us the way through the darkness.
On the home page of my blog you read Job 29:3 which says, “By His light, I walked through darkness.” I chose this verse because it is only because of God’s goodness that I have been able to walk through the dark times of life and find joy. It is because of His light that my tears turned to joy.
The picture above is from a sunrise in Africa. When the sun rises, the darkness flees. In the same way, when Jesus is lifted up darkness dissipates. There is hope in the light.
So my challenge is simple…draw closer to God and experience the light. As his light shines upon us, it is often reflected into the darkness around us.
