The Darkness Shall Be Eclipsed by Light

There are times when grief threatens to swallow us whole. It seems like it will never end. Recently, I’ve walked through the valley of the shadow of death alongside several people who long for peace and healing…

This week I went to the funeral of a precious woman and I was really moved by a post by her son regarding the bereavement process.

“We lost my mom this morning — or yesterday morning at this point I suppose. It wasn’t unexpected, except in the sense that it’s always unexpected that your life is capable of changing so dramatically. It still feels impossible. She was beautiful and sweet, loving and kind. I miss her terribly. On Monday the total eclipse will pass right over my family’s adopted home of Cleveland, Georgia. We all feel like the sun has gone out, and for a few moments it will appear to have actually done so. And then it will return, and we’ll all wake up in the morning and carry on as best we can, the way she taught us.”

Seeing the eclipse was a glorious sight! Seeing darkness trying to overtake the light and for a brief moment it seemed as though it had, but alas the sun shown once more. The same is true with grief. Brian portrayed this beautifully in his words about his mom.

Though sorrow may last for the night, joy comes in the morning….hold onto that hope! A wise man once said, “The cure for grief is motion.” So how do we overcome grief? We do so one day at a time as we move forward through the pain into the light!
